The Hollenbeck Police Station is already an award-winning project with an estimated size of 173,000-sq.-ft. and includes a four-story parking structure, a two-story contemporary design police station and one-story maintenance building with car wash. The police station includes a one story subterranean basement level which utilized extensive shoring at Chicago Street and at the Valdec Center, (an existing historic church on site). This portion of the project was completed in December 2007. The decorative and bullet proof glass exterior used for this project makes it contextually sensitive and highly functional as well as aesthetically distinctive as this will be the first police station to include such innovative architectural design. As part of the Proposition Q Bond Program, the project was the last job awarded and last to commence construction. Due to FTR's superior management team and excellence in performance, the construction phase is ahead of schedule by at least four months, and is eclipsing at least three Proposition Q Bond Program projects that were awarded to others prior to the Hollenbeck Police Station. This project is scheduled to receive a Silver LEED certification upon completion. Sustainable site planning; conservation, usage and proper disposal of materials, as required by the LEED program, are being incorporated in this project. The buildings are also highly insulated and will use energy-saving lighting fixtures.
