The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s award-winning expansion design adds over 16,000 square feet of interior space and a highly functional courtyard. The project consists of a two-story structural steel building including an Aquatic Nursery found on the lower level that showcases marine species and other conservation exhibits. The addition of the Exploration Center and the Virginia Reid Moore Library and the placement of the administrative offices on the upper level complete the construction of this project. Design and construction are considered contextually sensitive considering the buildings purpose, including the placement of the aquarium’s equipment and highly technical facilities used to run the marine laboratory. FTR’s construction personnel were highly qualified to handle delicate equipment and were able to incorporate the delivery of an artistic configuration of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.|
