Dooley Elementary School

This $34 million project consists of three, two-story buildings and two, one-story buildings including an amphitheater/multi-purpose hall and parking structure, totaling 110,000 square feet. The project was honored by the Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada with the Educational Design Honor Award in 2008.

Energy efficient materials and methods were used throughout the building, including special automated lighting fixtures that adjust the operable use of electricity according to the availability of natural light. All buildings and roofing are highly insulated in compliance with Title 24 requirements. Energy-saving glazing and glass materials were used as a preventative measure to minimize the use of heating and cooling systems in classrooms.

There are several innovative features in the design and construction of this project, including the play deck located on the top level of the parking structure, increasing the playground/athletic activity area for students by almost one-third.
