Allied Health and Science Center

The 100,000 square foot Allied Health and Science Center at Los Angeles Valley College was listed as "Project of the Year" in Higher Education by California Construction Magazine. The project required state-of-the-art laboratory systems, including a greenhouse and botanical research facility, administrative offices, computer workstations, classroom facilities, and auxiliary support spaces. High-tech mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were required to support the advanced laboratory facilities in addition to access systems and specialty items including alarms, telephone, data and audio visual systems.

The facility surpassed the minimum sustainability requirement specified by the owner to receive Gold LEED certification upon completion. This was due to an extensive application of sustainable features implemented by FTR, including photovoltaic (solar) paneling, storm water retention and reclamation systems, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved post-consumer recycled materials, and HVAC Chilled-Beam technology, serving as a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning alternative to Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems. Strict waste management policies enforced by FTR during construction supported local recycle centers and exceeded LEED required diversion percentages.
